The Itinerary.
Day 1 | Ulaanbaatar City
Welcome to Mongolia-the Country of Eternal Blue Sky and the land of Nomads. Upon your arrival at Chinggis Khaan Airport, Laguna Stella Team will be waiting to welcome you! Transfer to the hotel centrally located in downtown Ulaanbaatar and enjoy some walking chill-out (depending on your arrival timing, we would arrange more sightseeing) around Sukhbaatar Square, the very center of Ulaanbaatar. After having dinner at a restaurant, overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 | Yol Valley
Exciting trekking in ice gorges. After breakfast, our journey continues southwest to Yoliin Am, the Vulture’s Valley, famous for its unusual rock formations and where ice regularly stays frozen through the summer and often to very high heights. We will also have time to visit the local museum near the valley en route.
Day 3 | Khongor Sand Dunes
After morning chill-out at our Ger camp, our journey will head to Khongor Sand dunes to the southwest. The driving takes around 4 hours to reach the destination. Once we are at our Ger camp near the sand dunes, we can relax and have short hiking around the sand dunes to observe the sunset in the Gobi Desert.
Day 4 | Khongor Sand Dunes (Trekking)
Take a caravan and wander over sand dunes in style. In the morning a long transfer to the highest dunes of the Gobi, the Khongoriin Els. The Sand Dunes make spectacular sounds enjoyable due to immense tons of sands. Join our camel trekking with our local guide, who will take you deeper into the sand dunes on Mongolian two-humped camels. These camels are very comfortable to ride on due to their relaxed and gentle nature. Sitting comfortably between their two humps, you will be shown by our local staff how to best ride these camels so you can get the most from your trip of discovery into Khongoriin Els.
Day 5 | “Bayanzag” The Flaming Cliffs
Flaming cliffs as its name says. Transfer to the ger camp in Tugrughin Shiree near the Flaming cliffs, the place where they were found and reconstructed a hundred complete skeletons of dinosaurs and birds of prey that crowded this territory 70 million years ago. The 1920s expeditions to Bayanzag by American paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews made important discoveries and brought the first-known fossil dinosaur eggs, including specimens of Velociraptor, to museums. The rock gives off a suitably glowing orange color and seen in the light of this vast, ancient, silent landscape, makes for a very special and memorable experience.
Day 6 | Ongi Temple & Resort
Cultural and historical heritage is the pass to Central Mongolia. Departure to Ongi Temple ruin, the ancient Buddhist monastery that was totally destroyed during the old ages, but with enchanting ruins to visit. During the journey total landscape change - from the plains to the semi-desert without limits. The camp is equipped for the relaxation of its visitors (sauna, relaxing massages, billiards, etc.)
Day 7 | Erdene Zuu Monastery and Kharakorum
Departure to Khangai-Kheer (steppe and mountain region) Excursion to Erdene Zuu Monastery and the ruins of Karakorum, capital of Mongol Empire, the largest contiguous empire in history. Enclosed by a quadrilateral of imposing walls surmounted by 108 white Tibetan chortens, it was one of the greatest centers of Lamaist Buddhist thought outside of Tibet. Erected in 16th century, the most ancient of the Mongolian monasteries housed inside the city walls one hundred temples that were largely destroyed in the 1930s.
Day 8 | Tsenkher Hot Spring
Relax and bathe in nature. Tsenkher Hot Spring is the second hottest spring of Mongolia after Shargaljuut spring. The heat of the water reaches 86 celsius degree. It is an alkaline spring that contains hydrosulfuric acid and silica union and used for medical treatment. Tsenkher Hot Spring is good for treating rheumatism, neuralgia, muscular pain, and arthralgia and helps to improve the digestive system, restoring immunity after surgery, and recharging yourself. Drinking the water for a small dose or bathing for a specific amount of time are the ways of treatment.
Day 9-10 | Lake Terkhi and Khorgo Volcano
Wandering around extinct volcanoes and lakeshores. Explore Khorgo volcano, an extinct one, since ancient times while having joyful hiking through grasslands shortly before discovering Lake Tekrhi (also known as lake Terkhiin Tsagaan) nearby. An immense mass of white-hot lava once blocked the bed of the River Terkh and it is water formed Lake Terkhi, which is 16 kilometers in length, 20 meters in-depth, and 61 square kilometers in this area.
Day 11 | Khangai Mountain Passage
Continue the journey even far to the north where we meet Lake Khuvsgul and its picturesque nature. Grasp a glimpse of the Mongolian nomadic lifestyle along with great nature while heading to the north on a long driving excursion today. Upon reaching your traditional ger camp, take a rest and enjoy the meal served in Mongolian style.
Day 12 | Lake Khuvsgul
Another highlight of your journey-Lake Khuvsgul. Overland driving is part of your journey, pack and continues your trip to complete by late afternoon once you reach the beautiful Lake Khuvsgul areas. On the way, have some stops in nature and feel the emptiness of the Khangai Mountain range with your inner spirituality! There will be a great deal of time for hiking in the surrounding hills, swimming in the lake, or just gazing out over the vast blue expanse of water. The landscape and natural formation of Lake Khuvsgul is your must-see destination in Mongolia as well as some distinct advantages of the area would give a lot more to get closer in your self-esteem.
Day 13 | Excursion Day
Boating, hiking, or horse riding, the leisure is yours! After morning chill-out, we go hiking around the beautiful lake followed by a boating excursion. The region is also home to the Mongolian ethnic group Reindeer Herders (also known as Tsaatans) who have been living in the taiga mountains around Lake Khuvsgul for centuries. They breed reindeers and live in their own unique yurts. During your discovery around Lake Khuvsgul, we will also have the opportunity to meet these ethnic families camping near the lake shores and take some memorable photos. We also offer you have discovering wild nature on Mongolian horseback which is something must-do in the Lake Khuvsgul region.
Day 14 | Ulaanbaatar city
Today we take a late afternoon flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Once we check in to our hotel, the time is for your leisure. You can have some walking around the city center and have some chill-out.
Day 15 | Ulaanbaatar, the city tour
Today, we will visit Zanabazar Fine Arts Museum which is rich in Mongolian traditional art painting and a lot more cultural insights. After that, we also visit the Mongolian State Department store and Gobi/Goyo Cashmere. Mongolia is well known for its fine and quality cashmere products. In the evening, we will attend to Tumen Ekh Folklore Concert which famous for its wide variety of dance and singing performances as blessings to your journey. We will have a farewell dinner at one of Mongolia's prestigious restaurants.
Day 16 | Departure
Your driver and Trip Leader/Guide will take you to the Airport for your departure.
